Will Internet Marketing Work for Your Business? | Business Solutions ...

?This is an extremely difficult question to answer because there are so many complex factors involved. Specifically they techniques you employ in your Internet marketing campaign as well as the execution of these techniques can determine whether or not Internet marketing will work for your business. Additionally, the likelihood of your target audience using the Internet and responding to your marketing efforts should also be considered into the equation. This article will outline the potential for success in an Internet marketing campaign.

Before making the decision to embark on an Internet marketing campaign you should carefully consider your target audience. The Internet is used widely around the world but whether or not members of your target audience are likely to utilize the Internet to research or purchase the products or services you sell is not guaranteed. This is significant because investing a great deal of time, effort and money into Internet marketing when your target audience is not likely to respond to these efforts is not worthwhile.

Conducting market research can do a great deal to help you determine whether or not you should invest in an Internet marketing campaign for your business. This step is very important because it will give you a good indication of whether or not you should even begin marketing your business on the Internet. Hiring a firm specializing in market research is recommended because they can conduct this research quickly and efficiently and will likely gain a great deal of valuable information as a result of their research efforts. If they determine your business can benefit from an Internet marketing campaign, it is time to start thinking about how you want to advertise your business online.

Again, seeking the help of professionals can be an extremely worthwhile investment. If you are not well versed in the industry of Internet marketing, hiring a firm with a great deal of expertise in this industry can be very helpful. They can assist you by consulting with you to determine which marketing strategies will be most effective, designing advertisements for your campaign, helping you to orchestrate your Internet marketing campaign and evaluating the results of marketing efforts to determine which strategies are working and which are not.

The potential for success with an Internet marketing campaign is virtually limitless. The success you enjoy is only limited by your ability to promote your products and services and execute effective marketing strategies. Some of the marketing strategies you may wish to employ may include optimizing your website for relevant search terms, placing links to your website judiciously on the Internet, writing and publishing e-newsletters and utilizing affiliates to promote your website.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the most important aspects of any Internet marketing campaign. SEO is so important because it dictates the ranking of your website on popular search engines. Internet users value these results and are not likely to seek out websites which do not rank well with search engines. Conversely, high ranking websites can enjoy a great deal of increased website traffic as a result of these rankings.

Inbound links to your website are also important in Internet marketing. Inbound links are links on other websites which direct users to your website. These links are important in an Internet marketing campaign. First of all many search engines factor inbound links into their ranking algorithms which means inbound links can result in higher search engines rankings. Also, these links can be used directly by website users to access your website. This means you can gain traffic directly from these links.

Another way to enjoy a successful Internet marketing campaign is to orchestrate an affiliate marketing campaign. Affiliates are essentially website owners who place a banner ad on their website to direct traffic to your website. Typically, affiliates are only compensated when the advertisement on their website produces a desired effect such as enticing the users to click through the advertisement, resulting in a sale or resulting in another action such as filling out a survey or registering with your website. Affiliate marketing can not only be highly effective but it is also cost effective because you only pay the affiliates when they produce results.

10 million years to recover from mass extinction

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

It took some 10 million years for Earth to recover from the greatest mass extinction of all time, latest research has revealed.

Life was nearly wiped out 250 million years ago, with only 10 per cent of plants and animals surviving. It is currently much debated how life recovered from this cataclysm, whether quickly or slowly.

Recent evidence for a rapid bounce-back is evaluated in a new review article by Dr Zhong-Qiang Chen, from the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan, and Professor Michael Benton from the University of Bristol. They find that recovery from the crisis lasted some 10 million years, as explained in Nature Geoscience.

There were apparently two reasons for the delay, the sheer intensity of the crisis, and continuing grim conditions on Earth after the first wave of extinction.

The end-Permian crisis, by far the most dramatic biological crisis to affect life on Earth, was triggered by a number of physical environmental shocks - global warming, acid rain, ocean acidification and ocean anoxia. These were enough to kill off 90 per cent of living things on land and in the sea.

Dr Chen said: "It is hard to imagine how so much of life could have been killed, but there is no doubt from some of the fantastic rock sections in China and elsewhere round the world that this was the biggest crisis ever faced by life."

Current research shows that the grim conditions continued in bursts for some five to six million years after the initial crisis, with repeated carbon and oxygen crises, warming and other ill effects.

Some groups of animals on the sea and land did recover quickly and began to rebuild their ecosystems, but they suffered further setbacks. Life had not really recovered in these early phases because permanent ecosystems were not established.

Professor Benton, Professor of Vertebrate Palaeontology at the University of Bristol, said: "Life seemed to be getting back to normal when another crisis hit and set it back again. The carbon crises were repeated many times, and then finally conditions became normal again after five million years or so."

Finally, after the environmental crises ceased to be so severe, more complex ecosystems emerged. In the sea, new groups, such as ancestral crabs and lobsters, as well as the first marine reptiles, came on the scene, and they formed the basis of future modern-style ecosystems.

Professor Benton added: "We often see mass extinctions as entirely negative but in this most devastating case, life did recover, after many millions of years, and new groups emerged. The event had re-set evolution. However, the causes of the killing - global warming, acid rain, ocean acidification - sound eerily familiar to us today. Perhaps we can learn something from these ancient events."

RemodModesto.com ? Home Improvement Jobs Have One Number ...

Many people do not learn how important safety is until they get hurt doing a home-improvement project. Some injuries can actually be quite severe, and even cause death, depending upon the severity. Typically, slipping accidents top the list of the most common incidents that lead to injuries at home. Falling from the top of your house when trying to do a roof repair is also a very common injury.

If you do repairs, and if you use a ladder, you might find yourself falling if it is not properly secure. A ladder must be situated appropriately and secured before ever using it. Follow these easy tips and you will be safer than ever when getting things done at home.

Well, we hope you are duly impressed with just this little bit about mold. To make things even better, you just need to push the envelope a little bit by discovering more beyond this article.

Yes, you will not only understand this better, but the knowledge you gain will have a positive impact. There are tremendous benefits to be had once you reach that particular place. We all want to have as much control as possible, even though we know we cannot control everything, but still ? knowledge lets you be in a position to respond better to events. You must always maintain your tools in a proper manner to keep them running. Many have purchased tools for thousands of dollars. But if you fail to take proper care of them you are often asking for trouble. Very often an accident with power tools results from improperly cared for tools. If you have power saws, then you may already know what using a dull and old blade is like. This obviously can lead to a seriously dangerous scenario where the blade breaks. Not servicing your tools on a regular basis can lead to safety threats that you do not want to have. It is in your best interest to do regular maintenance on your tools.

Taking care of rags that you may have lying around on your floor or work area may not be very safe unless stored correctly.

There is a concept of fire loading that is often heard in industrial settings. The more flammable material you have in one spot, the greater the fire load. Flammable solvents soaked into this type of material must be disposed of properly. It is best to put these in a container that is airtight.

There are any number of possible scenarios with electrical hazards and safety. Some buildings are very old so you need to pay careful attention what you?re doing. Over time, expansion and contraction of the metal screws may cause them to loosen allowing for live wires. Electrical wires that are grounded may be hot or electrical which can cause physical damage if you grab them. If your installation is brittle, it could be a byproduct of lighting fixtures in the same room. Conductors such as wires that are exposed due to flaking insulation may cause a safety hazard. Therefore when working with electrical equipment and parts, be aware of this. Many people don?t even think about safety when making basic home improvements. Savvy home improvers know, safety is a must. Keep yourself and your whole family safe by taking the extra safety precautions outlined above. Remember, you can never be too safe!

The above information was put together with great care because we know the value of accurate and timely material.

There are so many who have been helped with information just like this, and we also know that on our own end. This is definitely not where your progress ends, though, and therefore continue your quest to know more about mold and its dangers. Before you try to take any kind of solid action, be very sure of what you want to do and how you plan to approach it.

We never have any problems at all in disclosing that what I offer in my material may or may not be comprehensive. Each of the points covered will always have a sizable amount of background information that is an organic part of it.

Euro zone bank safety net leaves holes unplugged

FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - As the euro zone ponders a possible Greek exit, policymakers have not yet built a shield robust enough to prevent a bank run in one country sending others in the bloc deeper into crisis.

A push by the European Central Bank for the euro zone to stand behind struggling lenders is slowly gaining traction with government leaders but the bloc has yet to build backstops to prevent, or cope with, a sudden collapse of confidence in banks.

Last week, European leaders discussed pan-European means of supporting banks, measures the ECB hopes will include a bank resolution fund to deal with the fallout from the wind-up or restructuring of a failing lender.

Such a body would complement the 1 trillion euros of 3-year credit the ECB has lent in recent months to banks across the 17-country euro zone, which has helped oil the wheels of Europe's banking system where confidence is so low that most remain reluctant to lend to one another.

But a wave of withdrawals by depositors - either for fear that their government is too weak to stand behind its banks or that their country will exit the euro and switch their savings into a vastly devalued national currency - would represent a whole different scale of crisis.

Such pressure on Ireland's banking system prompted a national bailout by the International Monetary Fund and European Union.

Now investors are worried about the contagion effect a Greek exit from the euro zone could have on savers in other countries.

"Preventing bank runs in Italy, Spain and Portugal should be the top priority," said Berenberg Bank economist Holger Schmieding. "Policymakers need to make sure that the potential Greek precedent of a forced conversion of domestic euro deposits into a weak new currency would not spark a run on banks ... elsewhere."

The ECB is pressing the euro zone to set up a fund that would prevent this dangerous ripple effect, a message reinforced by ECB policymaker Joerg Asmussen last week.

"The recapitalization of a troubled bank by its government may lead to a deterioration of the government's fiscal position," Asmussen said. "The deteriorating fiscal position in turn further weakens banks' balance sheets, through their holdings of sovereign bonds.

"This feedback loop has to be stopped ... A European bank resolution authority and a European deposit insurance scheme are two elements that could be used to address the nexus between sovereigns and banks."

Any pan-euro zone deposit guarantee scheme would need to be large in order to stem ebbing confidence.

The typical national guarantee in Europe now covers the first 100,000 euros on deposit, something that would do little to reassure corporate investors with millions.

It was the decision by companies in Ireland to withdraw deposits that accelerated its banking crisis.

The question of how to shut down or restructure teetering banks has risen to the top of European policymakers' agenda as concerns grow about the impact if Greece were to leave the euro zone, and as problems deepen in Spain's large banking sector, which is laden with bad property debts.

But policymakers are far from setting up a backup fund, not least because European paymaster Germany, who does not want to support laggard banks in Spain, is reluctant to finance it.

WAITING FOR DRAGHI

In the absence of a resolution fund or insurance scheme to deal with a bank collapsing, many investors expect the ECB would act to head off a bank run or a similar systemic threat.

ECB President Mario Draghi has said the 1 trillion euros the bank released into the financial system with twin 3-year, ultra-cheap lending operations - or LTROs - in December and February avoided a major credit crunch.

In the case of Greece, the belief is that the ECB would act again to contain a bank run, said Clemens Fuest, a professor at Oxford University and a member of the academic advisory board of the German Federal Ministry of Finance.

"The expectation seems to be that the ECB will prevent it by providing whatever liquidity is needed," he said, adding that this could either be from the ECB directly or as emergency funding from the Bank of Greece with the ECB's backing.

Greece's four largest banks received some help this week, with the country's bank stability fund approving an 18 billion euro injection of bailout money to rescue them.

If this proves insufficient and contagion spreads to other countries' banking sectors, policymakers may rapidly have to dust off plans to provide guarantees to weaker banks or inject further capital - scenarios discussed in the past but on which there has been no agreement.

CAPITAL FLIGHT

The banking environment has steadily deteriorated, according to statistics from the Bank for International Settlements, which chart the flight of capital from the euro zone's weakest members.

Figures from December last year show a sharp decline in deposits from abroad held in banks in Greece from $160 billion in late 2009 to less than $80 billion.

Ireland's bank deposits from abroad fell from $905 billion to $471 billion over that time and a similarly sharp fall was seen in Portugal.

Households and companies have almost 11 trillion euros on deposit with banks in the euro zone, with over 3 trillion in Germany alone, according to ECB statistics.

One way to reinforce banks would be to allow the euro zone's rescue scheme, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), to inject capital directly into lenders - an idea which Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is pressing but which Berlin opposes.

Under Europe's existing arrangements, countries like Spain - should they require assistance with their banks - must apply for a sovereign bailout programme, a humiliation too far.

"Taking on the risk of a bank failure at a European level through the ESM is far preferable to the much greater risk of a sovereign default," said John Fitzgerald, of the Economic and Social Research Institute, a Dublin-based think-tank.

In the absence of that, Berenberg's Schmieding said were Greece to leave the euro zone, Spain should apply to Europe's bailout funds for aid to recapitalize its banks.

The ECB could cut interest rates and - together with national central banks - supply banks with liquidity, he said, possibly with new long-term loans.

"COURAGEOUS LEAP"

Some ECB policymakers are open to considering a further LTRO, sources close to the bank say, but they face resistance from orthodox policymakers already worried by the balance sheet risks the ECB has taken on with the first two operations.

Germany's Bundesbank has already said the ECB should not significantly increase the risks associated with providing liquidity to Greece, and believes the impact of a Greek exit from the euro zone would be substantial but "manageable".

Easing the requirements on the collateral banks need to put up to access ECB funds is another way the central bank could help lenders short of liquidity - but such a technical step will not help if they become insolvent and a systemic risk.

Draghi is pressing governments rather than the ECB to take the decisive action and delivered a stark message last Thursday, saying: "We have reached a point in which the process of European integration needs a courageous leap of political imagination in order to survive."

'Like' this: Salutes to troops to flood Facebook feeds

Memorial Day is not just unforgettable: Thanks to Facebook it's also inescapable.

Salutes to troops past and present will be showing up every few seconds, this weekend, if the pace of posting is anything like Memorial Day 2011. Experts and everyday Facebook users say the social media Goliath has rearranged our thinking of how to mark this and every other holiday.

"The pressure is on to show you remember the birthday or national holiday, that you're not the bad friend or the bad daughter who forgot," says Sara Linton, 28, of Oakland.

Linton says she'll soon post an image of one of her most precious possessions, a framed letter from her grandfather, Ted Linton, to his wife, her grandmother Thora, on VJ Day in 1945.

"I'm proud we get to honor people and remember what they did," Linton says. "Posting something unique and real makes Facebook less superficial."

Vets and families of vets, we want you! Tweet us your memories, photos that show how military service has affected you: #uswarstories

Facebook holiday posts are a contagious phenomenon, encouraging users to mark every celebratory moment on line. "Likes" for Facebook's own flag-emblazoned Memorial Day page passed 102,000 by this week.

It's about the urge to be known, just like getting a tattoo or putting a bumper sticker on the car or running up the flag in front of the house on Monday, says Sam Gosling, a psychology professor at University of Texas, Austin, and author of Snoop: What your stuff says about you.

Sara Linton

Sara Linton plans to post to Facebook an image of one of her most precious possessions, a framed letter from her grandfather, Ted Linton, to his wife, her grandmother Thora, on VJ Day in 1945.

These are all "symbolic acts ? part of identity claiming, of saying to the world, 'This is who I am.' "

Ed Reiman presents his Facebook and Twitter identity as a husband, a grandfather and a retired businessman in Portland, Ore., and ? perhaps, most telling of all ? as a Vietnam Veteran who came home, crippled by post traumatic stress syndrome, on July 4, 1968.

Steve Barnhoorn

Steve Barnhoorn plans to post a picture of his great-grandfather Benjamin Pennington to Facebook over Memorial Day weekend.

Reiman, 65, tweeted at #USWarstories this week: "Was in Vietnam in the Army ? '67/'68 ? thru "Tet" ? survived ? think about it and friends I lost there everyday, but have lived well, raised a family ? have 'grands' ? and am now retired. I am blessed."

He has mixed feelings about the outpouring of Memorial Day posts on Facebook.

"I appreciate it. I think most folks are sincere. But I also think some people are trying to get rid of their own guilt for not speaking up sooner against the Vietnam War or for turning a cold shoulder to those veterans for 20 or 30 years," Reiman says.

He says he'll post this weekend on Facebook about "my pride in the people I knew and served beside."

Few Americans still mark the original way to celebrate Memorial Day with a visit to a veteran's grave. The Department of Veterans Affairs predicts more than 100,000 visitors to National Cemeteries this Monday, about the same as 2011. But there are 117 events for real time visits listed on the National Cemeteries Facebook Page, which has 3,389 likes.

Social media aren't necessarily to blame for the shift in observance. Given the mobile society, few people live near their own loved ones' graves any more.

" 'Local' is different now. Social media mean local is your computer, not your city," says Barbara Kemmis, executive director of the Cremation Association of North America.

So Steve Barnhoorn, 49, of Honeoye, N.Y, is a 'local' neighbor, one who invites you over to his place ? on Facebook ? to see his posts on veterans he reveres.

This weekend, watch for his post on his maternal great-grandfather Benjamin Pennington, who was "gassed in action" and wounded by enemy fire in World War I, and survived to be decorated with the Purple Heart.

Ever since Barnhoorn joined Facebook in 2009, he's posted for Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, too. That's when he posts a photo of his great-grand-uncle Earl Frary, who was serving aboard the USS Vestal when the Japanese bombs rained down.

"The world should know about these great people. I get all kinds of positive comments back. People say, 'Wow, I didn't know you had that personal tie to history,' " Barnhoorn says.

For those who need help crafting creative forms of gratitude on Facebook holidays, fear not. There are apps for that. The site also offer 13 apps for showing appreciation for Father's Day, from Instagram-ing childhood photos of Pop, to a video I-love-you via Viddy.

For Memorial Day, those who don't have grandpa's World War II snapshots or inspiring letters can draw on free illustrations from sites such as Satisfaction.com. It features 10 choices from a red-white-and-blue eagle flapping its wings to a bikini-busting beauty straddling a tank gun barrel.

Facebook posts also remind folks that partying and shopping are almost holiday duties.

AllFacebook, an unofficial Facebook blog from Web Media Brands, noted just days before Memorial Day last year, posts mentioning the holiday were chiefly invitations to barbecues and parties or pitches to shop holiday sales.

Blogger Jackie Cohen observed, "Only the occasional post addresses the fact that the holiday honors those who've died in military service," and only 20% of Americans knew the original purpose of the day.

Facebook holiday mentions roughly double every year in posts by the 500 largest public branded corporate pages (the ones with the most Facebook fans), according to Socialbakers, a media analytics company.

In 2012, there was a 73% jump in branded pages that wished folks Happy Mother's Day. Of all the branded paged with posts on Facebook that day, about 25% made a holiday mention.

On Memorial Day 2011, roughly one in four of the 185 posts that day on commercially branded pages made mention of the holiday.

"We expect that this Memorial Day brands will be commenting on the holiday more than they ever have in the past," says Socialbakers' CEO Jan Rezab.

Yet, the old-fashioned way of celebrating with a greeting card is undiminished by the competition from social media, says Jaci Twidwell, a spokeswoman for Hallmark Cards.

The urge to share runs on parallel tracks. Even as holiday wishes soar on line, people are still exchanging cards at the rate of 13 million a day, Twidwell says.

"Electronic communications are better for sharing information, but greeting cards are better for sharing emotion," Twidwell says. "You can't put a Facebook post in the shoebox under your bed. It doesn't replace the pleasure of getting something tangible in the mailbox. What Facebook has done is give us more options."

Rest assured, on the word of Emily Post's great-great-granddaughter and etiquette authority Anna Post. She says there's nothing rude about posting holiday greetings, "as long as you spend time off line with the people who matter most."

Employment Branding: Business, Culture, and HRO ? HRO Insights ...

Yesterday, I participated in a very lively online Twitter discussion about employment branding. Branding is a common topic for businesses, particularly for corporate, product, and service identities. Employment branding is important to ensure the attraction and retention of employees that can deliver the business brand experience. Meghan M. Brio?s brand humanization concept is that it is all connected: the business brand, its culture, and its ability to attract and retain talent. That connectivity is a business opportunity for HRO, think RPO and employment branding services, and it is also an issue for HRO service providers as employers.

In an earlier blog this year, I concluded that HRO will not hinder and may even help clients achieve human capital leadership, using leadership and best place to work awards as evidence. Diversity award lists from DiversityInc.com and Diversity MBA magazine have just come out for 2012 and again we see recognition of HRO service providers including Accenture, ADP, and IBM, as well as many companies that use HRO. Here are examples from the world of RPO:

  • Alexander Mann Solutions: Citi and Deloitte
  • Futurestep: General Mills and Kaiser Permanente
  • KellyOCG: GE
  • Kenexa: Verizon and U.S. Navy
  • ManpowerGroup Solutions: Wells Fargo
  • Randstad SourceRight: AT&T and Capital One
  • The RightThing, an ADP Company: Kellogg and WellPoint.

As part of my long running theme on talent management, I believe strongly that HRO vendors can and should be leaders in creating the agile workforces of the future. Part of being a leader is practicing what you preach, which is largely what corporate and employment branding is about.

In HRO service providers often need to scale up and scale down quickly, while still ensuring a full slate of experienced subject matter experts. On top of that, many HRO service providers base client care centers and processing centers in talent competitive markets, which often stimulates high turnover and brings together workforces from very different cultures. This is the second challenge of employment branding for HRO, as employers, each service provide needs to build a differentiated employment brand and corporate culture to attract and retain the talent needed to fulfill its business brand.

Part of developing an employment brand is determining what attributes make a particular employer a good place to work and developing programs to ensure those elements are in the workplace and recognized by current and prospective employees and are aligned with business outcomes. Sounds simple, but it surely isn?t.

Buyers, ask your HRO service providers about their workforce practices to see if they practice what they sell. Service providers, in addition to client testimonials, engage and leverage your own employees as brand ambassadors.

How not to eat the wrong frog

Fringe-lipped bats can?t be fooled by imitators of favored prey

Web edition : 3:46 pm

Fringe-lipped bats eat frogs even though gulping the wrong one in the dark could be fatal.

New high-speed video of the tropical bats swooping toward various frogs and toads shows that the predators deploy a sequence of senses to update their judgment of prey during an attack to avoid eating a toxic amphibian, says behavioral ecologist Rachel Page of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Gamboa, Panama. The bats proved hard to fool even when researchers played the call of a favorite edible frog while offering up another species, Page and her colleagues report in an upcoming Naturwissenschaften.

In the tropics, various bats will nab a frog if given half a chance, but only the fringe-lipped species (Trachops cirrhosus) is known to follow frog calls, such as the ?tuuun chuck? call of the t?ngara frog (Engystomops pustulosus).

In tests in Panama, Page and her colleagues found that fringe-lipped bats turned aside in mid-air if researchers broadcast enticing t?ngara calls but offered up a cane toad (Rhinella marina), which is way too big for a bat to carry off.

The possibility that incoming bats might use echolocation to avoid overweight prey intrigues bat specialist Brock Fenton at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Early studies of these bats largely ignored possible last-minute echolocation, he says.

The new tests also revealed that playing t?ngara calls while offering a right-sized but toxic leaf litter toad (Rhinella alata) led bats to catch and then drop the unpleasant prey. (Both bats and toads survived.)

This reaction fits with research on certain moth-hunting bats, says John M. Ratcliffe at the University of Southern Denmark. These moth specialists avoid a toxic tiger beetle when they hear its clicking noises but become much more likely to pick it up if researchers mute the clicks.

Editor's Selections: Political Economy and the Grave, and Uniform Colors

ShareShare ?ShareEmail ?PrintPrint

Two selections for your holiday weekend (Memorial Day, US):

  • Can grave goods tell us about the political economy of a group? At Bones Don?t Lie, Katy Meyers reports on recent research that examines what burial practices can reveal about the extent of social networks.
  • At bigthink, David Berreby discusses a neat study on the ways colors can influence our perception ? and how sports teams may integrate this information when planning team uniforms (and how it might work against them). It?s a fun read that takes research out of the lab and away from the WEIRD crowd.

Until next time, folks. I?ll be back next week with more from anthropology, philosophy, and research.

Rheem Water Heaters Continue to Impress and ... - IdeaMarketers.com

As people think of the appliances in their homes, they often overlook their water heaters. These appliances are constantly used but they aren't given much thought. When the time comes to replace them, Rheem water heaters are the best and should be the only heaters that are considered.

Rheem water heaters are manufactured to fit a wide variety of needs. There are some people that want to conserve energy, heat unconventional places and some people just want to save space. No matter what their concerns are, Rheem has created a water heater that will satisfy those concerns. They take the thought out of choosing a water heater.

There are some people that want to have a completely modern home. They don't like the thought of having a bulky water heater in their basement, wasting valuable space. As these homeowners look for different products, they find that Rheem offer a tankless water heater. These water heaters are compact, not weighing more than 55 pounds. These tanks can heat water on demand and continue a steady stream of hot water through the home as needed.

Some people are concerned with sustainable living. They want to live a healthy life while leaving a small negative impact on the Earth's atmosphere. These customers are often thrilled to learn solar powered Rheem water heaters are available for home use. These types of water heaters will help save money on utility bills because there is less electricity and gas used to heat the water heater as well as fewer gas emissions put into the atmosphere.

There are some people that are able to have the luxury of a spa or pool at their home. When they want to heat either of them, they are able to find Rheem water heaters to heat them. These water heaters allow people to continue to use their pools and spas all year round.

With all the innovative creations that are available for water heaters, there are some homeowners that still prefer traditional tank water heaters. Rheem understands that and with their engineering, they have upgraded their water heater tanks to support even the most demanding hot water needs. Their tanks have been redesigned do be environmentally friendly as well efficient.

Businesses can also take advantage of the quality that Rheem water heaters give. There are many businesses that need to have hot water available and the commercial water heaters are strong enough to keep up with the demands. There are many varieties that businesses can choose from.

Since the 1930s, Rheem water heaters have been available. They have met and exceeded the industry's expectations and standards. The engineers at Rheem take the time to quality test their products ensuring that all regulations are met. These beautifully produced heaters are the product of a team that believes in what they do.

Many Years Young: Fitness may reduce hypertension risk

(UPI) People who have a parent with high blood pressure can reduce their risk of hypertension with moderate exercise, U.S. researchers say?

"The results of this study send a very practical message, which is that even a very realistic, moderate amount of exercise -- which we define as brisk walking for 150 minutes per week -- can provide a huge health benefit, particularly to people predisposed to hypertension because of their family history," [lead author Robin P.] Shook said in a statement.

California Prop 29 Pits Lance Armstrong Against Big Tobacco (VIDEOS)

SAN FRANCISCO -- Cycling icon Lance Armstrong has, at various points in his life, played the parts of both David and Goliath. In his most recent fight, he'd better hope he's packing his slingshot.

The cancer-beating, seven-time Tour de France champion now faces one of the toughest challenges of his career: combating Big Tobacco's multimillion-dollar onslaught against a tax hike on cigarette sales in California.

(SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEOS)

Armstrong is co-chairman of a campaign to convince California voters to approve Proposition 29 on June 5. If passed, Prop 29 would increase the cost of a pack of cigarettes in the Golden State by $1.

Revenue generated from the tax increase, which the state Legislative Analyst's Office projects could reach $735 million annually, would be used to pay for cancer research, smoking cessation programs and tobacco law enforcement.

The purpose of the proposition is twofold. First, increasing the price of cigarettes would decrease the number of smokers; the California Department of Health estimates that drop to be around 8 percent. Second, Prop 29 would create the largest cancer research fund in the country not controlled by the federal government and bring in some 15,000 new jobs.

Major medical groups such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association all support the measure, but it still faces an uphill battle due to a massive influx of cash from the tobacco industry. Prop 29's opponents have to date raised $40 million, a staggering sum compared to the $8.6 million gathered by the measure's supporters.

Philip Morris, R.J. Reynolds, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco, the American Snuff Company and others have together contributed tens of millions of dollars to take down the measure. The California Republican Party and the political group Californians Against Unaccountable Taxes, which receives more than 93 percent of its funding from R.J. Reynolds, have also kicked in some cash.

A similar, albeit unsuccessful, 2006 proposition to levy a $2.60 tax on each pack of cigarettes in California was felled by a $67 million industry-funded advertising campaign. Many observers expect the current fundraising effort to at least match, if not exceed, that figure.

On the other hand, aside from medical groups, the largest donations to push Prop 29 have been $1.5 million from the Lance Armstrong Foundation and $500,000 from billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Armstrong himself appeared on the premiere episode of California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's Current TV political chat show last weekend and spoke about his efforts to support the measure. "I think this is a smart investment for the state," said Armstrong. "You have eight or nine hundred million dollars a year pumped into the economy ... [and are] bringing in the best doctors, nurses and researchers from all over the world. That has to be a great thing."

Newsom, who also supports the proposition, agreed that an increase of the state's tobacco tax is long overdue. He noted that the California Legislature has attempted to hike the tax on cigarettes 33 times over the past three decades, yet succeeded only once in 1993, when a couple of cents were tacked on for breast cancer research. "[Tobacco companies] pump in tens of millions of dollars to, in essence ... buy off politicians of all political stripes," the former San Francisco mayor told Armstrong, "so you have to go to the ballot."

Not everyone is convinced that establishing a research fund is such a good idea, however. Joel Fox, who manages the advocacy group Small Business Action Committee and runs the California political blog Fox & Hounds, worries that putting the already cash-strapped state into the medical research business could backfire. "It's just creating a program based on a revenue source that will decrease over time [as more and more people quit smoking]," Fox told The Huffington Post. "Taxpayers could be on the hook if it starts lacking for revenue."

Due to the structure of California's political system, passing any kind of revenue generation measure can be a truly Herculean effort. Since property tax measure Prop 13 became law in the late 1970s, super-majority votes in both houses of the state legislature are required to enact even the most modest tax increase.

In practice, the only way for anti-smoking activists to get something like Prop 29 enacted is to put it before the voters. And they might not be the most receptive audience.

"If history is any guide, when it comes to taxes, voters are very wary," said Larry Gerston, a San Jose State political science professor and "Not So Golden After All: The Rise and Fall of California" author. "They have a tendency to vote no."

Additionally, Prop 29's placement on the ballot in June instead of November could give its opponents the upper hand. "June turnouts tend to be very low, and those who do show up to vote are of a very different cohort than the general electorate," explained Gerston. "Conservatives always vote, but moderates and liberals only really come out for November elections."

The anti-Prop 29 forces have already used their massive money haul to blanket California's airwaves with an ad campaign depicting the measure as one with its heart in the right place but problematic in execution.

In the most controversial spot, Dr. La Donna Porter stands in a doctor's office and rattles off a whole host of problems associated with Prop 29. "I'm against smoking, so I thought Prop 29 was a good idea. Then I read it," Porter says in the ad, which ran in heavy rotation on TV stations for two weeks. "It raises $739 million in tobacco taxes, but not one penny goes to new funding for cancer treatment. Instead, it creates a huge new research bureaucracy with no accountability run by political appointees who can spend our tax dollars in other states."

The ad sparked widespread condemnation from the medical community and, in a scathing editorial, the San Francisco Chronicle marveled, "It's amazing how many deceptions can be packed into 30 seconds."

Despite the backlash, advertising is doubtless having an effect. "You can't put something on the air 50 times a day and not expect voters to be moved by it," said Katherine McLane of the Lance Armstrong Foundation. "It's hard for a group of nonprofits to counter that."

Although the Chronicle came out in favor of Prop 29, the Los Angeles Times, the state's highest-circulation newspaper, isn't a fan. In an editorial last month, the Times argued that revenue from the tax would do more good directed into the state's general fund, a view that professor Gerston shares.

"Proposition 29 is well-intentioned," the editorial says, "but it just doesn't make sense for the state to get into the medical research business to the tune of half a billion dollars a year when it has so many other important unmet needs."

Take a look at ads both for and against Prop 29 below:

Autism - learn about symptoms, causes of Autism

Autism - is the result of a neurological disorder which has an effect on human brain function, affecting development of the communication and social interaction skills and by restricted and repetitive behavior. This disorder belongs to a group of serious developmental problems called ASD, which in most cases appear in early childhood (usually before three years).

Autism

Full Article - Autism (Symptoms, Causes, Risk factors, Preparing for your appointment, Tests and diagnosis, Treatments, Prevention)

..............................................................................................................

ASD (or Autism) is a wide-spectrum disorder.

This means that no 2 people diagnosed with Autism will have exactly the same symptoms. The person with Autism may seem socially clumsy if the symptoms are not severe. However, if the symptoms are more severe, the person may seem not to be interested in other people at all.

Children with Autism, generally have developmental disorders in three crucial areas - behavior, language and social interaction. However, symptoms of Autism can vary greatly for each person. Two children with the same diagnosis have strikingly different skills and may act quite differently. In most cases, though, severe Autism - is characterized by complete loss of ability to interact or communicate with other people.

For many children, symptoms improve with treatment and with age. Children whose language skills regress early in life before the age of 3 years appear to have a higher than normal risk of developing epilepsy or seizure-like brain activity. During adolescence, some children with an ASD may become depressed or experience behavioral problems, and their treatment may need some modification as they transition to adulthood. People with an ASD usually continue to need services and supports as they get older, but many are able to work successfully and live independently or within a supportive environment.

Most common Autism symptoms are some bellow:

Behavior

  • Develops specific rituals or routines
  • Performs repetitive movements such as spinning or hand-flapping or rocking
  • Moves constantly
  • May be fascinated by parts of an object, such as the spinning wheels of a toy car
  • Becomes disturbed at the slightest change in routines or rituals
  • May be unusually sensitive to sound and touch, light and yet oblivious to pain

Social skills

  • Has poor eye contact
  • Fails to respond to his or her name
  • Appears not to hear you at times
  • Appears unaware of others' feelings
  • Resists cuddling and holding
  • Seems to prefer playing alone ? retreats into his or her "own world"

Language

  • Loses previously acquired ability to say words or sentences
  • Starts talking later than age 2, and has other developmental delays by 30 months
  • Doesn't make eye contact when making requests
  • Can't start a conversation or keep one going
  • Speaks with an abnormal tone or rhythm ? may use a singsong voice or robot-like speech
  • May repeat words or phrases verbatim, but doesn't understand how to use them

U.S. airlines see decline in baggage-fee revenue

By Rob Lovitt, msnbc.com contributor

Despite carrying more passengers, U.S. airlines earned less in baggage fees last year, a result that has observers wondering: Are travelers carrying less ? or just carrying more on board?

Consider the numbers. According to the Department of Transportation, the 17 largest U.S. airlines earned $3.36 billion in baggage fees in 2011, down slightly?from $3.4 billion the year before. That was the first drop since the industry fully embraced ? la carte fees in 2008.

Meanwhile, U.S. airlines carried 730 million passengers in 2011, up 1.3 percent from the year before.

The numbers are even more dramatic for individual carriers. Last year, Delta Air Lines maintained the top spot in baggage fees, taking in almost $864 million. That was down 9.2 percent from the $952 million the carrier earned the year before, despite a 2.3 percent increase in passengers.

United Airlines, in the No. 5 spot, posted an even bigger decline in bag fees, dropping 11.8 percent to $276 million from $313 million, although that was concurrent with a 6.7 percent drop in passengers.

The reasons for the decline in revenue run the gamut, says Rick Seaney, CEO of FareCompare.com: ?The airlines are doing a better job of selling branded credit cards, which often waive bag fees; they?re giving out more elite perks; and people have finally figured out how to pack a little lighter.?

They?re also carrying more and bigger bags on board. ?There?s no doubt that if you?re not in the first half of the boarding process, you?re not going to find bin space,? said Seaney. ?People who try to cheat the system are carrying on their entire lives.?

That prospect is one reason Allegiant became the second U.S. carrier, after Spirit, to charge a fee for carry-on bags that don?t fit under passengers? seats. Announced in April, the airline is now charging variable fees ? $10 to $30 if paid in advance, $35 if paid at the airport ? to stow a bag in the overhead bin.

?If people are charged to check a bag and not charged to take it on the plane, the inclination is to try to put more and more and more into their carry-ons,? said Allegiant spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler. ?It slows the boarding process and it?s not fair to the people who do follow the rules.?

It may also prove to be a good source of ancillary revenue. Last year, the carrier earned $53.5 million in baggage fees, down slightly from $55 million in 2010. Spirit, on the other hand, earned almost $134 million, up 65 percent from the year before.?

For cash-strapped airlines, that sort of revenue must seem like manna from heaven, especially as airlines struggle to maintain profitability in tough times. To put it in perspective, without the $864 million that Delta earned in baggage fees last year, the airline?s net operating income of $854 million would instead have been a $10 million loss.

"Even with these impressive revenues from ancillary fees, some airlines are still reporting razor-thin profit margins thanks to increased fuel costs,? said George Hobica of AirfareWatchdog.com. ?Imagine what would have happened without them.?
