Marriage and Divorce, A Survivors's Guide

?Marriage and Divorce, A Survivors?s Guide? by Durban?s own Spike Farrell is the only book I have ever come across that makes essential reading for happily married couples and those in the throes of a divorce, writes East Coast Radio?s Charis Apelgren.

No matter if you are:

*thinking of getting married or living together;

*in a marriage or in a relationship;

*thinking of getting divorced; or

*recently divorced

Spike is for marriage and wants every marriage to survive, yet he recognises that sometimes divorce is inevitable ? and his book is geared to helping couples on every point.

Spike knows his material and provides a practical look at relationships.

?When I started divorce proceedings against my wife, I looked around for a book which would at least give me some form of information on what I was about to go through. There was nothing available at all! So I made my mind up to write a decent book which would help people with this devastating procedure, and if lucky enough, would be able to help them save their relationships!? says Spike.

Its 73 short chapters cover every imaginable topic and, if followed word for word, will spice up and encourage a strong marriage. Other chapters will help in the uncovering of an affair while others will assist couples find a meaningful life post-divorce.

?I don?t consider myself as a relationship coach, just a person who wants to pass on the benefit of my own personal experiences I gathered when I went through my divorce. My book is in existence only to help people in a bad situation. I have had many people come up to me and discuss their own personal problems, and I help where I can,? he says.

Using the true story of a couple he calls Peter and Fiona as a thread throughout, Spike focuses on all aspects of marriage, from the reasons for skipping down the aisle in the first place to abuse, jealousy, lack of empathy, boredom, adultery and, of course, divorce.

He points out that it is easy for a couple to slip into a situation where they start to take each other for granted and make mistakes which could lead to the collapse of their relationship. Spike believes that if both parties still love each other then the union is worth saving.

?A couple can overcome infidelity, but it?s a hard road to travel, and depends heavily on the personalities involved. If they really, honestly still love one another, then there is a chance, but every case is different, and depends very much on what caused the straying in the first place.

?I have had four couples tell me that my book has assisted them in saving their marriage. The book merely points out elements in all relationships that people tend to forget over time. It really is a very simple book, which indicates basics that are in all marriages, but people overlook after being together for a number of years. Things like love, affection, respect, empathy and so on.?

I believe that every couple, married or not, should get themselves a copy of this book and read it every couple of months to reinforce the simple steps to keeping a relationship on track.

And what is needed to keep a relationship alive?

?The most important component, or should I say components, would be love, trust, and mutual respect. Without these elements, your relationship is doomed,? says Spike.

What?s next for this author?

?I have two books on the go at the moment, one on downshifting in the modern world, and the other, a very strange book on the different characters who have inhabited my family at one time or another. I have used them as templates for a rather strange story. The people are real, the story isn?t! So far, it?s hysterical!?

?Marriage and Divorce: A Survivor?s Guide? is available at Exclusive Books and other smaller bookshops around the country. It is also available at www.Amazon.com.
